A Journey Home; Back To The Heart

“Love is the process of leading you gently back to yourself.”

This article stems from the heart, and is directed towards the heart. It is a journey of remembering and uncovering our True and Highest-Selves. Through heart centered meditations and practices, I have been able to build my life from this soul self with as much joy, fulfillment, and wellbeing as I wish. Our own heart is our greatest healing resource and teacher. We can tap into this space whenever we choose. From our heart, stems our ability to live through our highest wisdom and observe any belief patterns or emotions that may no longer be of service to us. This magnificent organ can be used to invite unconditional love into every moment of our lives. Through practicing stillness and heart centered meditation before I begin my day, I have found myself in a place of complete presence, re-wilding my being into humor, and deep joy. I invite you to use the tools and meditations in this article to enhance your journey back to the heart and to the unified whole.

When I turned nineteen, I had a deep feeling within me that somewhere in my past I had experienced something so high, with so much light and energy, that nothing I had experienced with my senses or thoughts thus far had compared. Somewhere inside, everybody knows that there is a place which is totally fulfilling. Your heart is inviting you to come, surrender… Become infinitely fulfilled.

This article marries scientific knowledge with spiritual wisdom, guiding you back to the center, to stillness, and to unconditional love, and bliss.

First, you must recognize that you are a multidimensional being. Beyond the mind and the body lives a vast realm of unconditional love and life energy. Reconnecting with our hearts brings us in touch with this source and allows us to stem from this place during our everyday lives. By taking thirty minutes in the morning to center ourselves and tap into what we innately are, we can bring this with us throughout our day and share it with the lives around us.

Through stillness, comes connection. In the fast paced western world we spend much time using the magnificent three pound organ known as our brain. All the while, our physical heart is continually sending messages to our brain to bring us deeper clarity and intuition. Many of us have allowed ourselves to become hyper focused on our brains capacity. Each heartbeat we emit forms an energy field that is coupled to a field of information that is not bound by space and time. This field is referred to as our spiritual heart, or higher-self. By bringing more awareness to our heart and enhancing its presence in our lives, we can begin to enhance the degree of love we experience on all levels; self, other, and planet earth. We begin to understand that we are finite beings in an infinite universe creating our own realities. You have the choice in each moment what you wish to create. When we heal ourselves, others are healed.

Our energetic heart is a receiving station through which information goes to the physical heart. Once we understand ourselves inwardly, we can expand outwardly. The heart is 500 times electrically stronger than the brain and 5,000 times more magnetic.

Changes in emotions are accompanied by predictable changes in the heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and digestive system. Research proved in 1994 that our heart has something referred to as a “little brain.” The heart has 40,000 neurons that send information to our brain through afferent nerve pathways. These pathways enter the brain through the medulla and then cascade up into the higher centers of the brain where they influence perception, decision making and our cognitive process. Thus it is understood that the heart has its own intrinsic nervous system that operates and processes information independently of the brain or nervous system (this is what allows a heart transplant to work). The heart is proven to generate the bodies most powerful and extensive electromagnetic field. Because the hearts electromagnetic field is five hundred times stronger than the brains magnetic field, it can be detected several feet from the body.

Your heart field acts as a carrier wave for information that provides a global synchronizing signal for the entire body. One person’s brain waves can synchronize to another person’s heart. There is now evidence that a subtle, yet influential electromagnetic communication system operates just below our normally conscious awareness. These energetic interactions contribute to our daily interactions, attractions and repulsions. The heart excretes oxytocin, also referred to as the love or bonding hormone. Concentrations of this hormone in the heart were found to be as strong as in the brain. Oxytocin is involved in cognition, tolerance, adaptation, sexual and maternal behaviors, learning social cues, and establishing and enduring pair bonds. When heart rhythms are coherent; when we are connected with our hearts, the neural information sent to the brain facilitates cortical function. This is often experienced as heightened mental clarity, improved decision making, and heightened creativity. Further, research in 2001 showed that the heart and brain receive and respond to information about a future event before the event happens. The heart appears to receive this intuitive information before the brain.

There is still much to learn about our beautiful hearts and I encourage you to be your own teacher in this quest for unconditional love and connection. Our heart is the spiritual hinge of the human mind. Conscious awareness lives far beyond the brain, with the heart playing a significant role in this process. The heart is self organizing through the power of our thoughts and actions. It can be used to communicate with the cosmic universe through non-physical pathways. Morning Heart Embers Meditation:

Awake and greet the day in gratitude and silence. Begin by sitting in lotus position in front of an alter or collection of sacred objects. Breathe in deeply to the root chakra, grounding yourself into a new day. Imagine roots coming out from your tail bone into the core of the earth. After you feel centered, begin to focus on your heart. I typically focus on my spiritual heart, a bit to the right of my sternum. Your body will tell you which heart would like the attention. As you breath in, imagine the breath is stoking a fire within your heart. Each breath makes the flame larger. Watch and feel as the flame illuminates your being. First, hold the flame for yourself, playing with sending this light and love to different places in the body. After about 15 minutes, begin imagining shooting this flame with intention outwardly; to loved ones, to the earth, or to any imbalance that needs healing. With each breath, you are becoming the love you wish to receive and spreading that love outwardly. After thirty minutes of igniting the heart, sit in gentle awareness. Stay open and remain silent. Listen to what wishes to come through your divine channel. Have a notebook near by to write down any incites or inspirations that come through. Thank your higher self for guiding you and remind yourself of three things you’re grateful for.

Asana Meditation: Bhujangasana – Cobra Pose

In cobra, with eyes closed, breathe into your heart center. Picture a rose bud growing in your heart with each breath. Allow the pose itself to become a meditation. Keep your head aligned with your spine. Hold this pose for five minutes, then rest on your right cheek, laying on your stomach, hands by your sides. Do a second performance for five minutes and then rest on your left check.

Additional Heart Medicine To Carry Throughout Your Day:

1. Rose Water: collect rose petals from an organic source and place them in a glass jar. Leave them in the sunlight to steep (anywhere from ten minutes to a few days) and enjoy a soothing heart tonic… Boost your medicine by adding a rose quartz to the jar 🙂

I will often use the same petals for up to five days. Once the rose water loses its potency, return the petals to the earth as an offering of gratitude.

2. Cacao: Used as medicine for over 3,00 years, not only is cacao an amazing super food, but it is known to directly ignite the heart. Containing over 700 compounds and many antioxidants, cacao slows the aging process of the human body and enhances the production of serotonin and dopamine. This means that cacao aids as an anti-depressant and mood enhancer. It helps to maintain the elasticity of the blood vessels which allows more blood flow in and out of the heart.

Recipe: stir intention/song/love into 4 tbspoons coconut oil, 1/4 cup brown organic sugar, and 4 tbspoons raw  cacao over a low flame… once these are melted together, add a pinch of vanilla, nutmeg, and ginger (you can experiment with any of your favorite herbs and spices e.g. mint, cinnamon, cayeene, sage.)

Finally, and anywhere from 1/2 cup to 2 cups of water and stir until even to create a silky mouth and heart medicine

3. Rose, sage, and lavender smudge sticks

Collect sage, lavender and roses from a local source and wrap them in twine. Hang them upside down in a dark, cool space for two weeks and enjoy the cleansing effect of these herbs.
